CGS PSY 201 Introductory Psychology

4 cr.

Survey of major content areas in Psychology. Topics include research methodology, learning, memory, cognition, biological psychology, sensation, perception, motivation, emotion, development, personality, psychopathology, and social psychology.

Prerequisites: none.

Course Rules: Students may not receive credit for both CGS PSY 201 and CGS PSY 202.

CGS PSY 210 Statistical Methods in Psychology

3 cr.

An introduction to descriptive and inferential statistics. Topics include measures of central tendency, measures of variability, correlation and regression, sampling distributions, and hypothesis testing procedures including t-tests, and analysis of variance.

Prerequisites: a grade of C- or better in CGS PSY 201 or CGS PSY 202; completion of or concurrent registration in CGS MAT 103, CGS MAT 105, CGS MAT 108, CGS MAT 116, or Math Placement Level 30 or above; or consent of instructor.

CGS PSY 212 Career Planning and Development for the Multicultural Workplace

3 cr.

Understanding of and preparation for multicultural work environments; critical reflection on cultural identities, connecting personal history to social and historical forces, understanding bias and oppression.

Prerequisites: OWC Part A or CGS ENG 102(P).

CGS PSY 220 Positive Psychology Applied to Culture, Learning, & Development

Introduction to topics related to happiness and positive aspects of the learning experience, positive psychological constructs that optimize learning.

Prerequisites: OWC Part A or CGS ENG 102(P).

CGS PSY 224 Conceptual Introduction to Statistics

1 cr.

This course is a supplement to CGS PSY 225 for students who have had no previous course in statistics.

Prerequisites: PCGS SY 201/CGS PSY 202 grade of C- or better or cons. instr. and concurrent registration in CGS PSY 225.

Course Rules: This course is not a substitute for CGS PSY 210 and does not satisfy requirements for an introductory course in statistics.

CGS PSY 225 Experimental Psychology

4 cr.

Emphasis on research techniques, design, and methodologies including the collection, analysis, and reporting of psychological data. Lecture and laboratory.

Prerequisites: CGS PSY 210 or equivalent statistics course.

CGS PSY 250 Life Span Developmental Psychology

3 cr.

A survey of human development theories and research. Topics include the biological, cognitive, emotional, and social development of the individual from the prenatal period through old age and the process of death and dying.

Prerequisites: CGS PSY 201 or CGS PSY 202 with a grade of C- or better, or cons. instr.

Course Rules: Students taking CGS PSY 250 may not also receive credit for CGS PSY 360 or CGS PSY 362.

CGS PSY 254 Behavioral Neuroscience

3 cr.

Discussion of the biological substrates of attention, emotion, motivation, learning, cognition, language and psychopathology; includes an examination of research using lesions, stimulation and neuroimaging. Some background in biology is strongly recommended
